Children's Religious Education Program

Goals

The goals for our children's religious education program are:

  • To develop an understanding of our Unitarian Universalist heritage and the Principles and Purposes of the Unitarian Universalist Association,

  • To develop religious literacy, understanding and insights from all the world religions,

  • To develop respect for self and for others,

  • To learn and live effective ways of service within the congregation, the local community and the world,

  • To encourage children to develop their own spirituality and religious beliefs, and to recognize this process as a lifelong journey.

Our Program 2004-2005

We have two classes meeting with our dedicated team of teachers on Sundays from 4:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m.:

A lower elementary class using the Unitarian Universalist curriculum, Rainbow Children, and exploring through role play and storytelling.

An upper elementary/early middle school class using the Unitarian Universalist curriculum, A Growing Up Year, and a variety of field trips involving community service and exploring the community.

Our third class is our Coming of Age Group which meets twice a month.  This is a two year commitment going to different congregations and working within their group to begin developing a sense of their own beliefs.

Adult Religious Education Program

At various times throughout the year, the reverend Kathy Duhon offers adult religious education classes on a wide range of subjects.  Topics over the past few years have included:

  • Emerson as Spiritual Guide

  • Catechism With an Open Mind

  • What If Nobody Forgave?

  • Evensong (listening and sharing of thoughts, beliefs, and journeys in spirituality and religious life - an experience of shared worship)

  • Our Unitarian Universalist Story
